Double graduate brings ‘Strictly Ballroom’ to Bath

A former student from the University of Bath has set up a monthly dance in the grandeur of the Bath Assembly Rooms starting this Sunday 9 March 2008, 3-5pm.

Dr James Whitehead, who graduated with a PhD in Engineering in 2005, is setting up the event following the success of his dancing schools programme, through his company Viva La Dance, a company committed to furthering the opportunity for dance involvement in Bath.

The event will be held with the support of Heritage Services and will be running, after the first date of 9 March, every third Sunday of the month in the National Trust Assembly Rooms’ main ballroom.

Open to all ages and all levels, the dance will feature Latin American and Ballroom specialists as hosts. The University’s Latin American and Ballroom Dance Club will also be attending.

“This is a truly community spirited event and in line with some of the original purposes of this building. We are extremely fortunate to be able to use the venue in such a way,” said Viva La Dance Managing Director, Dr Whitehead who also studied for his undergraduate degree at the University.

“We would like to encourage everyone to get up, come out and have an enjoyable afternoon with us.”

The dance will be preceded by a half hour lesson for beginners at 2.30pm, covering the basics, specialising in a different dance each month.

The Assembly Rooms café will be open for light refreshments during the dance. Tickets are available on the door. (£7/£6.50 concs.) For more information call Viva La Dance on 01225 339342 or see the links above.
