Dr Melanie Trusselle who will be sadly missed in the Department

Internal News - 14 April 2008

Announcement from the Department of Pharmacy & Pharmacology

The University reports with great sadness that Dr Melanie Trusselle has died peacefully on Tuesday 8 April, after a short battle with cancer, having been diagnosed only in November 2007.

Melanie was a post-doctoral computational chemist/molecular modeller in Professor BVL Potter's research group in Medicinal Chemistry and had worked at the University for a little over 3 years.

Melanie herself made several important professional contributions to cancer research in her own work at Bath and was proud to be working personally in that area. A former nurse, she worked as a mature student to earn her first degree at the University of the West of England and subsequently a Ph.D in computational chemistry from Bristol University, before moving to Bath. Her dedication to her work and excellent achievements promised a bright professional future ahead.

Her death was not expected; indeed, Melanie, in good spirits, recently paid a visit to the Department and was looking forward to returning to work from sick-leave shortly. Her specialist professional skills and warm personality will be much missed in the Department by colleagues and friends alike.

Melanie’s funeral will be on Friday 18 April at the Canford Crematorium in Westbury on Trym, Bristol, BS9 3PQ. The service will start at 11.30am, followed by a wake afterwards in the Hilton Hotel, Bradley Stoke, Bristol, BS32 4JF.

There will be a collection on the day so that those who wish can make a donation to St Peter’s Hospice (Mel's chosen charity). Family flowers only.

Please contact Susan Alston (S.B.Alston@bath.ac.uk) in the Department of Pharmacy & Pharmacology by midday on Tuesday 15 April if you wish to attend the funeral and wake.
