Research Showcase - Sustainable Energy & the Environment

Message from Professor Kevin Edge, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research)

I am pleased to announce that the University will stage its first Research Showcase event on 17 September 2008 under the theme of ‘Sustainable energy & the environment’.

It is the intention to bring together researchers from across the University in a high profile event to demonstrate and publicise the breadth and depth of activity within this area to industry, service providers, local government and other stakeholders across the South West.

Participation is also expected from other Higher Education Institutions in the region. The exhibition will be formally opened by Mr David Willetts MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Innovation, Universities & Skills.

A little background

Research under the energy and the environment theme cuts across the technical and social disciplines of the University and is represented within an interdisciplinary framework of research, CPD and postgraduate teaching provision.

The research activities at the University can be classified into the following, but not exhaustive, sub-themes:

Professor Gary Hawley from the Faculty of Engineering & Design is leading and assembling a small team to assist in the staging of this event.

More details will be released in due course but at this point we are seeking ‘Expressions of Interest’ from groups who would like the opportunity to showcase their research.
