Former Chairman of HM Revenue and Customs to talk in Bath

Sir David Varney will be discussing the social and economic challenges facing the UK in a free public lecture at the University of Bath on Tuesday 13 May 2008 at 6.15pm (lecture theatre 3 WN 2.1).

The talk will highlight various changes affecting the world and UK economies, the implications of the changes for the UK and the possible implications for higher education.

“At a time of short-term concern about the economy, it is vital not to lose sight of the profound longer term changes occurring in the world economy and the challenges and opportunities these will create for the UK,” said Sir David Varney who is currently advisor to the Prime Minister on Public Service Transformation.

“As an open economy and home to very significant foreign investment, it is vital that we continue to maintain and enhance our competitive position in the global economy.”

Sir David Varney has previously held the posts of Chairman of HM Revenue & Customs, Chairman of Business in the Community and President of the Chartered Management Institute.

Admission is free, but tickets need to be reserved from Stephanie Marshall, details above. Free parking is available in the West car park. The presentation will take place in lecture theatre 3 West 2.1 on the Claverton campus, University of Bath.
