Press Release - 30 April 2008

Get creative at a free arts and advice week in Swindon

Local people are invited to a free confidence boosting and informative Creative arts & advice week running from 19-23 May 2008 at the University of Bath's Oakfield Campus in Swindon.

The five-day workshop is open to all adult learners interested in entering further or higher education. Participants will be given information, advice and guidance and encouraged to explore their creativity with a range of art projects in a university setting, aimed at boosting their confidence allowing them to make life and career changes.

The art sessions will encourage creativity and confidence, and the advice sessions will offer knowledge and provide the opportunity to network with others in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere. Inspirational role models will also be on-hand to answer individual questions and share their experiences.

The morning sessions, lead by University of Bath staff and advisors, will focus on information, advice and guidance, including interview and presentation skills, university applications and more.

Lunch will be followed by art sessions lead by professional artists, featuring collage, easel painting, charcoal drawing and mask work.

“The Creative arts & advice week is a unique opportunity for adults who are wishing to make life changes and are considering returning to education, but who lack the confidence to do so," said Pauline Pratt, Creative Director for the project.

"Through a series of art workshops coupled with advice and information sessions, we aim to empower and enable the participants to move on with their lives."

Participation in the Creative arts & advice week is free, as are art materials and lunch. Transport costs may also be covered in exceptional circumstances. The venue is the University of Bath in Swindon's Oakfield Campus, Marlowe Avenue. Activities run from 9am to 2.45pm. The workshop is open to over 18s only, no qualifications or artistic abilities are required.

Application forms are available for download via the link above. Successful entrants will be notified in May. For more information please contact Anne Olesen, contact details above.

This workshop has been organised by the University’s Broadening Participation Team.
