Professor Kevin Edge to be Deputy Vice-Chancellor

Professor Kevin Edge is to be our new Deputy Vice-Chancellor. Council appointed him by a unanimous vote at its meeting on 15 May 2008.

He will take up his new appointment on 1 August 2008 following the retirement of Professor George Lunt.

Kevin is currently Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) with responsibility for the University’s Research Strategy, including management of the University’s RAE2008 submission and its response to the new Research Excellence Framework.

Prior to this, he was Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering for six years.

Speaking about his appointment, Kevin said:

“I am looking forward to playing a broader role in shaping the University’s future strategic direction.

"As a leading UK university we are in a very strong position but we know that the higher education sector will face a number of challenges over the next few years.

"The goal will be to build on our existing reputation for academic excellence. All new initiatives will need to be underpinned by this foundation."
