Bath's students unite to celebrate the launch of festival

For the first time, the University of Bath and Bath Spa University are working together to present University Fusion - a number of free events as part of the Party in the City celebrations to launch the 60th Bath International Music Festival on Friday 23 May.

University Fusion showcases a series of short performances by students in and around the Abbey Square, created in conjunction with the Natural Theatre Company, Bath's world-famous comic-visual theatre specialists.

This will be followed by the Bath Spa University Orchestra & Choir performing highlights from Suor Angelica, one of Puccini's most touching and beautiful pieces, in Bath Abbey.

Later in the evening, the universities present a firework flourish, visible from across the city. Searchlights will sweep the sky, followed by a brief firework display to welcome the start of a memorable Festival fortnight.

John Struthers, Director of ICIA, University of Bath comments:

"Bath has two first class universities that add greatly to the culture of Bath & North East Somerset. How appropriate then that we work together to add some of our student talent to the many events that will make up the Party in the City.

"These citywide events will be a fitting tribute to help celebrate the 60th International Music Festival, a festival that has become a highlight in the Bath cultural calendar."

"Both universities are indebted to the generous support of the Roper Family Trust who made this event possible.

The student work and fireworks are supported by the Roper Family Charitable Trust. The searchlights are kindly provided by Enlightened Lighting Ltd.
