Dr Linda Bauld appointed as scientific adviser to the Department of Health

Dr Linda Bauld from the Department of Social & Policy Sciences has been appointed as the Department of Health’s scientific adviser on tobacco control.

This appointment builds on Linda’s role in helping to establish the new UK Centre for Tobacco Control Studies, which will be launched later this year, and her efforts in developing the University of Bath tobacco control research group, which she convenes with Dr Anna Gilmore from the School for Health.

Dr Bauld said: “This new appointment will help strengthen the links between Bath’s growing group of tobacco control researchers and policy makers.

“Tobacco remains the single biggest cause of preventable ill-health and death in the UK and it is vital that researchers work with government to reduce the harm caused by smoking.

“This new role compliments our ongoing programme of research and builds on the experience of other colleagues in Social & Policy Sciences who have previously served as government advisers.”
