Press Release - 06 June 2008

Chance for local carers to discover what support is available

Local people with caring responsibilities for another person have the opportunity to find out about their rights and the wealth of help and support that is available at a drop-in session organised as part of National Carers Week and hosted by the University of Bath (11am-2.15pm on 11 June, in the Claverton Rooms on campus).

There will be a range of organisations on hand to answer questions, including: the Citizen’s Advice Bureau; childcare specialists from BANES Family Information Centre; Rethink, which supports those with mental health problems; and the Peggy Dodd Centre, which focus on confused older people and runs a sitters’ service.

There will also be information from The Care Network, Crossroads – Caring for Carers and the Care-4 childcare employee benefit scheme.

Marlene Bertrand, HR Manager and organiser of the event, said: “The University values its staff and students and feels that providing an information session such as this will assist people to deal with their personal situations more effectively. We hope that members of the public will also come along and benefit from this event too.”

The informal event is organised by the University’s Equality & Diversity as part of National Carer’s Week (9-15 June). For more information, please contact Marlene Bertrand on 01225 383098 or email
