Thanks for making it such a success!

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research, Professor Jane Millar, has expressed her gratitude to all those involved in making the Research Showcase such a success on Wednesday:

"Thank you to everyone across campus who played a part in ensuring that this ground breaking event took place.

"The research showcase was a first for the University and involved a huge amount of behind the scenes activity to turn the vision into a reality on the day.

"The event itself was a tremendous success and I hope that we can capitalise on the interest we generated in our activities and the valuable contacts we made on Wednesday."

David Willetts MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Innovation, Universities & Skills attended the event and performed the opening ceremony of the University's latest research institute: the Institute for Sustainable Energy & the Environment (I-SEE).

He praised the University for its consistently high quality of research in science and technology, saying that the new Institute was an excellent example of how collaborations between different disciplines can give rise to new ideas and innovative approaches to the problems of climate change.

The event was well attended by businesses from the region, including Ford, Airbus, Qinetiq, Rolls Royce and Motorola companies.

And other major stakeholders from the environmental sustainability research field such as UK Energy Research, EPSRC, SWERDA and the Environment Agency were represented. (Please see Related Links for complete list of attendees.)

Michael Duke from Airbus-UK said: "Thank you for a wonderful showcase of your sustainable and environmental research areas, some of which I am certain will be of use to our current projects."
