Press Release - 19 September 2008

University of Bath in The Sunday Times “elite top ten”

The University of Bath has been named ‘best in the South West’ in the latest league table to be published by The Sunday Times.

In the overall UK table the university is ranked tenth and is commended by the newspaper for ‘retaining its place in the elite top ten once again’.

In a press release, The Sunday Times says: “The University offers high quality teaching underpinned by an outstanding research pedigree.

“Graduates are in demand and most leave with relevant experience thanks to a placement programme open to all students that allows students to work within a company or to study abroad.”

Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bath, Professor Ian Jamieson, said: “We are delighted by our position in The Sunday Times guide. All of our staff contribute to the quality of our learning environment and the student experience. I am delighted that their efforts receive national recognition.

“Our students get an excellent education and are offered a range of opportunities to broaden their experience of university life. It is particularly pleasing to see praise for our excellent placement programme which helps so many of our students to secure graduate level jobs when they leave.”

The Sunday Times University Guide 2008 will be published this weekend (21 September). It contains full profiles of all universities and the leading colleges of higher education.

Its league table is drawn up from criteria including student satisfaction, teaching and research quality, ratings from head teachers’ and academic peer review, entrance qualifications held by new students, degree results achieved, student/staff ratios, graduate unemployment levels and university dropout rates.
