Survival training for business

Press Release - 21 January 2009

Survival training for local businesses

The University of Bath is offering a series of four practical workshops to help local businesses survive and grow through the current economic challenges.

The training will run at Carpenter House, the University's city centre location, from March 2009 until February 2010, teaching cutting edge business tools designed to have an immediate impact on business success.

Courses will also run at Swindon College and Wiltshire College in Chippenham, Salisbury and Swindon.

The workshops will focus on: solving difficult problems; looking for new ways of making revenue and profit; making decisions under pressure; and negotiating and influencing people effectively.

Each workshop will be followed by a facilitated business clinic offering individual support for business problems.

Course leader Roger Croft said: “Small businesses have to be good at everything if they want to survive and grow in today's environment. Making improvements or changes is also difficult as there is risk involved and the business is busy already.

“The training available from the University of Bath is designed to support a business owner or manager through an intended change or review within their business. It may be the difference between an intended development working or not working."

Mr Croft has a specialist MBA in Entrepreneurship and Business Venturing, as well as certificates in Coaching and Mentoring and Action Learning. He has led University courses on Enterprise and Leadership and Management and runs the PRD Partnership based in Corsham.

Businesses based in Wiltshire or Gloucestershire, with one to 49 full time employees, have the option of gaining NVQ or ILM accreditation at Level 3 or 4.
