Internal News - 29 January 2009

Serious injury to Department of Mechanical Engineering student

The University is sorry to report that first year Department of Mechanical Engineering undergraduate William Ramsay has been admitted to hospital with serious spinal injuries. His condition is described as unconscious but stable.

William sustained the injuries in the early hours of this morning (29 January) at his accommodation in Quarry House on the Claverton campus. The police are now investigating the circumstances of this incident.

William’s family have been informed and are at his bedside. They are not yet ready for visitors at this stage but wanted fellow students and staff to know about his condition.

We recognise this incident may be having an impact on students and staff who know William and want to remind you all that support is available from the University counselling service.

Access to Quarry House remains available but has been restricted for the time being to allow police to carry out their investigations.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Security Services on 01225 385349.
