Friday 11.15am Message to staff & students about University closure

The University announced at 10.15am this morning that it would be closing today, having given interim decisions at 7.20am and 8.45am.

We appreciate that it may have been frustrating not to have made a final decision earlier, but weather forecasts were for the position to improve and we considered it might have been possible to operate by midday.

Given the state of the car-parks, that the bus service to the University continues to be suspended, the ongoing hazardous state of the roads and the advice by emergency services not to travel, the University took the decision despite improving weather conditions to close.

The University is very grateful to all staff who have come in today.

The Fresh shop, the Sports Training Village and university catering outlets will close at 2pm. All other staff on campus are asked to agree with their manager when they may leave.

Staff currently at home are asked to work from home where they are able to do so.

Weather forecasts for Monday are for further snow. The University will be monitoring the situation closely from early in the morning. Students and staff are asked to monitor the website on Monday morning (and on any future day when weather conditions are poor).
