Academic to appear on TV as part of World Maths Day

Chris Budd, a Professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences, will be appearing on the BBC 'The One Show' at 7pm tonight as part of a special feature on World Maths Day.

The programme was interested in maths in nature, so Chris talks about mathematical biology.

Chris received the University of Bath’s first National Teaching Fellowship Scheme award in 2001. This was in recognition of his outstanding work on making maths and science accessible for children.

He is a passionate populariser of mathematics and gives many talks to schools on subjects as varied as mazes, sundials, African art and the maths behind crime detection. He has also been known to get people to dance to the tune of mathematics during an interactive session at a BA Festival of Science.

Chris is one of the organsiers of the annual Bath Taps Into Science fair, a two-day event which gives more than 400 pupils from the Bath area an introduction to science through slime, robots, bubbles, and much more. Preparations for this year's event on 13-14 March are well under way.
