Stem cell scientist to run workshops at the Indian Institute of Science
Vasanta Subramanian (Biology & Biochemistry) is returning to the institute where she did her PhD studies to share her expertise in stem cell research by coordinating a number of workshops for postdoctoral students at the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore.

Fairtrade banana bonanza a great success
Bath MP Don Foster and Cllr David Bellotti joined more than 300 students and staff in a world record breaking attempt for eating Fairtrade bananas today (Friday 6 March) on the Parade.

Learn Spanish in Alicante - free of charge
Under the Cooperation Agreement between the Universities of Bath and Alicante, there are opportunities for members of staff to acquire basic language skills, or to improve those that they already have, whilst learning about Spanish culture. The courses and accommodation are free of charge and run in July and August. Closing date for applications is 30 March 2009.

Local school pupils to discover science through slime
The Bath Taps into Science fair will give people of all ages the chance to learn about the world by having fun with science, through interactive and attention-grabbing displays and demonstrations. On Friday 13 March the fair will be held at the University's Founders' Sports Hall (11am to 3pm). The second day will run at Green Park Station on Saturday 14 March (10am to 4pm). Entrance is free.

Don Foster MP to Go Bananas at the University of Bath
Don Foster MP and Cllr David Bellotti, Chairman of Bath & North-East Somerset Council, will join staff and students hoping to set a new world record for eating Fairtrade bananas on Friday 6 March at 1pm on the Parade. The Go Banannas event is part of Fairtrade Fortnight and everyone is welcome.

Two Bath graduates offer to match donations pound-for-pound
This week sees the beginning of the University's spring telethon to raise money for the Alumni Fund, which exists to enhance the student experience by providing scholarships, hardship grants and support for innovative projects. Two graduates - Kuldip Salh (BPharm 1980) and Bernard Dokelman (Economics & Administration 1970) - are aiming to inspire their contemporaries to join in supporting the University of Bath financially by offering to match-fund all gifts from new donors.

Bath International Music Festival discount for staff
Staff can now buy tickets for the Bath International Music Festival (Friday 22 May to Saturday 6 June) in advance of the general availability and at a ten per cent discount. For more information see the Festival website ( or call the Box Office on 01225 463362. The discount is only available through the Box Office, not the website. Staff should quote 'University of Bath staff member' when contacting the Box Office. Booking opens to the general public on Tuesday 10 March.

University Chaplain, Rev Angela Berners-Wilson, has become a Prebendary of Wells Cathedral following her installation and collation last night (24 February). It's an honorary role which dates back to medieval times and is in recognition of her 30 years service to the Church of England

Success x4 for Bath students at BCSWomen Undergraduate Colloquium
