Placements - Business Process Review

The University has begun a Placements Business Process Review, with support from Southern Universities Management Services (SUMS) Consulting. The aim is to define and agree a common framework for placement provision across the University by September 2012.

A one-day event on Wednesday 23 February, will give students the chance to boost their employability, in a series of workshops and presentations covering everything from how to interview well to running your own business.

Good news for modern language students

Drs Peter Wagstaff and Renate Rechtien from the Department of European Studies & Modern Languages (ESML) together with Diane Hay, Head of Careers, were invited to attend a presentation and debate at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office on Monday 18 October. Discussions focused on the recruitment of UK graduates to the institutions of the European Union.

Graduate recruitment targets are up, despite the recession

For those about to graduate in 2010, there is a mood of cautious optimism in many sectors; the Association of Graduate Recruiters reports that more than half of its members, representing the major traditional recruiters, plan to increase their numbers for 2010 (following the nine per cent fall in 2009).

Submit your 'Images of Research' for exhibition in Bath

Images of Research is an annual event for Research Staff, Research Students and Academics to share their research using photographic images. All entries will be displayed in a public exhibition to be held at the Octagon, Milsom Place, Bath from Thursday 13 May to Saturday 15 May 2010, with an Exhibition Opening Reception in the evening of Thursday 13 May.

Study for a funded masters and gain work experience

The University of Bath is inviting local businesses in the south-west to apply to the Graduate Experience Scheme for project help from its graduates and academics. Firms working in the field of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) have the opportunity to take on a graduate for five months to work on a specific project, with support from an academic at the University.

Thirteen students who were awarded University enterprise bursaries were presented with the final instalment of their funding by Diane Hay, Head of Careers, at a reception in the Careers Advisory Service.

IBM teams up with University

IBM has teamed up with the University of Bath throughout 2009, running a host of events on campus, from recruitment evenings to training sessions about to how to give presentations. IBM has also sponsored initiatives with the Sports Training Village, including sponsoring the new news ticker on the TeamBath website and hosting a Wimbledon event on campus.
