Maureen Wheadon - tribute by David Packham
"I knew Maureen through her membership of Council and various University committees. She brought with her a level of interest and dedication to the service of the University which was exceptional in a lay member of Council. She always approached issues of importance with a fresh and independent outlook, which was formed by a deep understanding of the fundamental values of a university as a community and by a sympathy for what is necessary for the flourishing of both staff and students. An indication of the high regard in which she was held may be gauged from two facts: she was awarded the Chancellor's Medal for services to the University and she owed her position on Council in recent years on the popular vote of the members of Court. In the last few years as her disability became more acute, her good humour was an inspiration to her colleagues as she went about University business, armed with her increasingly large print copies of agenda and papers. Her perceptive comments and cheerful disposition will be sadly missed."
