New
research grants will help promote healthy lifestyles
The School for Health has been awarded more than £600,000 by the Medical
Research Council for two new research projects aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles.
Mitosis gets harder thanks to new gene discovery
A biological process taught to every pupil studying GCSE science has
just become a little more complicated thanks to a new discovery published
today.
Major chemical biology grant links universities of Bath and Hamburg
More than £400,000 has been awarded to the universities of Bath and
Hamburg to work on the molecules that act as messengers inside cells.
University joins Power Academy
The University has become one of only seven universities in
the UK to be accredited as part of the Institute of Engineering Technology’s
Power Academy.
Students organise fun run for Romanian orphanages
Organised each year by Student Community Action, the Bathwick
Hill Fun Run encourages participants to get sponsored to run the course,
with all the money raised going towards funding its annual Romanian aid trip.

Vysiion, the latest start-up company to join the University’s Innovation
Centre is hunting for talented students to join them.
University energy champions attend Guildhall event
25 Energy Champions from the University attended a celebratory event
at the Guildhall recently.

Klaus Meyer, Professor of Strategy and International Business in the
School of Management, has been appointed adjunct professor
at Copenhagen Business School.

A36 roadworks started this week
Work has started on roadworks at Limpley
Stoke that will close the A36 to through-traffic for up to 12 weeks.
Disconnection of power supply to various buildings 5 & 6 April
To enable urgent maintenance work to be carried out it is necessary
to disconnect the electrical power supply to various buildings from 7.30am-5pm
on either Saturday 5 April 2008 or Sunday 6 April 2008.
University reception desk opens in Library
A University reception desk has been opened alongside the security
desk in the Library.
Moodle 1.9 'sandbox' now available
The Moodle 1.9 sandbox test environment is now available to staff.

Staff Recognition Award
All staff other than academics are eligible to receive this award which recognises either individual members, or small groups, of support staff who have shown excellence in the way in which they have undertaken their duties, and who have contributed to the broader life of the University. Please consider nominating a colleague. Deadline: Wednesday 30 April.
Teaching Development Fund
As part of its Learning & Teaching Strategy the University has continued its commitment to a Teaching Development Fund. Bids are invited for the latest round of funding totalling approximately £60,000, which is due to be allocated for the academic year 2008/09 on 10 June. In support of current developments at the University, the themes of this year's allocation will be: academic induction; assessment and feedback; employability; work-based and placement learning. Deadline: Friday 2 May.

The Radio Science Orchestra with special guest Ken Hollings Memories of the Future ICIA Arts Theatre | Friday 25 April, 7.30pm
The Radio Science Orchestra performs a live score to a series of short films of ‘radio scientific’ subjects. The Orchestra line up includes performances by the theremin, the world’s first practical electronic instrument, the only one today to be played without being touched. -
BODYSOC SALIGIA: Seven Sins ICIA Arts Theatre | Wednesday 9 - Saturday 12 April, 7.30pm
Produced by students from the University of Bath’s effervescent dance society, it features a variety of performances from guest societies, including the Breakdancers, the Cheerleaders, Latin and Ballroom and the Salsa Society.

A series of atmospheric photographs taken on a low-resolution mobile phone camera depict the North Sea, where most of the North's un-mined coal still resides. Enlarged beyond clear definition, the images become hazy, impressionistic, glowing with colour.

Bath researcher wins endurance run despite rain and gales
Tim Holsgrove, a researcher from the Department of Mechanical Engineering,
has completed three gruelling marathons along the Dorset coastline in 24
hours
to win the
Jurassic Coast Challenge title for the second time despite severe weather.
Karate retail overall BUSA title
The University of Bath Karate Club continued their domination of BUSA Karate
with another strong performance at the inaugural British University Championships
in Sheffield, improving upon their medal haul from last year. Strong performances
in the senior categories will give three Bath fighters availability for World
University Games selections in the next month.
Football - Team Bath FC go down at Bashley
Team Bath FC's bid to secure the only automatic promotion place from the BGB
Premier Division suffered a setback when the went down 4-3 at Bashley on
Tuesday.
