University launches new Public Engagement Unit
The University has been awarded £300,000 to set up a new Public Engagement Unit to help us promote our research.
Two students win BUCS Service Desk/ITP store redesign competition
Zifeng Wei and Patrick McEvoy, forth year students from the Department of Architecture & Civil Engineering jointly entered the recent competition and each won a £100 Amazon voucher for their design, which opens out the existing Service Desk area into a friendly, customer oriented, store.

Ross Mounce, third year PhD student, has won the Panton Fellowship in which he will promote open data in science.

An international consortium has determined the structure of an important new drug target in complex with a synthetic molecule designed by our researchers, opening up new avenues for drug discovery.
reSEARCH Careers Event Wednesday 18 April
This event will be open to up to 300 research staff and students from across the South West and Wales and will be a fantastic opportunity to hear from other researchers about their careers, talk to alumni, meet employers in talks and workshops and get advice from researcher careers advisors.
Silvy Peeters a member of the Tobacco Control Research Group within our Department for Health was recently presented with a Young Investigator Award at the closing ceremony of the 15th World Conference on Tobacco or Health (WCTOH) in Singapore.

Computer Workstation Risk Assessment - departmental assessors - Wednesday 25 April
This course will enable assessors in departments to conduct and record computer workstation risk assessments for their colleagues with confidence and in accordance with legal requirements.
Lights, camera, action: KTA-funded media training back by popular demand - Wednesday 9 May
Knowledge Transfer Account (KTA) has organised and funded a media training workshop. Places are limited so anyone interested is being urged to book now by contacting Will Marsh, Head of Corporate Communications.
A road map to involving patients in research - Friday 25 May
This one-day event will help attendees gain an insight into the importance and benefits of patient and public involvement (PPI) as well as provide practical information to help support the use of PPI within their own research.

The Staff Recognition Award recognises either individual members, or small groups, of support staff who have shown excellence in the way in which they have undertaken their duties and who have contributed to the broader life of the University.

Human development in India: towards social inclusion - Monday 23 April
This lecture will draw heavily on India's recent Human Development Report, for which Dr Mehrotra was lead author. Dr Mehrottra was one of the original architects of the UN Human Development Reports, and is currently Director of the Indian Institute for Manpower Service.
