Student sells dotcom business for $1.25 million
Kieran O'Neill, a 19-year-old School of Management student who developed a video streaming website two years before YouTube, has sold his business for $1.25 million (£630,000).

The 2007 presidential and parliamentary elections provide an opportunity to take the political pulse of the French nation. In the light of the election outcomes, this one-day conference at the University on Friday 6 July aims to investigate the processes of political change in France and the reasons behind them.

INFORMATION

University's new Smoking Policy
The University has updated its smoking policy to take account of the statutory changes coming into effect in July and to manage the impact of smoking upon non-smokers. The Parade and Underdeck have been designated non-smoking areas. Smoking is still permitted in open areas, sited well away from buildings (as a general guide 4 metres or more). The seating area on the south end of the Parade Bar has been designated as a smoking area which can be used at any time.

New support for research student supervisors
A practical guide to employability & enterprise for Deans, Heads of Departments/Schools, Directors of Studies for research postgraduates, Directors of Studies for MRes programmes and supervisors of research postgraduates.

Publicising the research of academic staff
Some 120 staff have already agreed to put their details up on the University's media experts' database, and all other academic staff are encouraged to consider adding theirs. This makes it easier to publicise the research carried out by academics to a wide audience. Please contact the Press Office: ext 4220.

New staff
The new starters update gives the name, job title and department of all new members of staff at the University who started in the previous month.

Implementation of Agresso finance system
The presentations planned for 8 & 14 June have unfortunately had to be postponed because some participants are unable to attend and it was felt better to have a complete picture for users at each presentation. Apologies to all those who may have changed arrangements in order to attend either of these sessions. Details will be posted as soon as possible of alternative dates.

Stress and growing up – parent volunteers needed
Volunteer parents and their children are needed for a Department of Psychology research project on stress hormones and development.

Volunteers sought for exercise project
Men aged between 18 and 34 years are needed for a research project investigating the effect of acute exercise on energy hormones.

Franz Kafka's The Trial - 8 & 9 June, Museum of Bath at Work
Over the coming few months, Bath University Student Theatre (BUST) will be taking a production of Franz Kafka's novel The Trial, adapted by Steven Berkoff, to three fringe festivals around the UK: Bath, Buxton and Cambridge.

Vote for your favourite painting
The University is currently running a competition to promote new painting on the theme of innovation and enterprise. There are two prizes up for grabs: the University of Bath Painting Prize and the University Choice Prize for the artist whose painting receives the most votes from staff and students. Please feel free to go to the University Hall Foyer and view the shortlisted entries. The deadline for voting for the University Choice prize is Sunday 17 June.
