Information
Heads of Department
A list of Heads of Department for the period starting 1 August 2008 is now available online.
Fire alarm testing
The quarterly testing of the University's fire alarm systems will take place next week. The alarms will sound in a short burst and Estates will try to keep the sounder activations to a minimum. You are not required to leave the building. However, should the alarms sound in a continuous long burst, then this is not a test, and you should immediately evacuate the building using the safest possible route. Thank you for your cooperation.
Quarry Road footbridge
The Department of Estates, in conjunction with consulting engineers FMH of Bath, is now planning the installation phase for the Quarry Road Bridge replacement. Currently the bridge is at the painters, which will take about three weeks, and then then bridge will begin its journey, under police escort, to arrive at the University Campus for installation at the beginning of September.
Hairdressing Salon still open for business
The Department of Estates has reviewed space requirements following Endsleigh and Waterstones vacating their premises, and has decided that the Hairdressing Salon is able to remain in its current location until Christmas, after which the situation will be looked at again. The Salon is open Monday to Friday, 11am-3pm, but is closed on Tuesdays until next semester.

Team Bath’s Foster carries flag for Great Britain
University of Bath-based swimmer Mark Foster was given the honour of being flag-bearer for Great Britain at the Opening Ceremony for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, which take place this afternoon (Friday). He is the second Team Bath athlete at consecutive Games to carry the flag, after Sydney 2000 silver medallist and judo player Kate Howey was bearer at Athens 2004. The fact that the position is voted for by all the athletes and team leaders from Team GB across all sports is a measure of the stature of Mark's achievement.
Pickering upbeat about medal chances in Beijing
University of Bath based sprinter Craig Pickering, who has been selected to race in the 4×100m at the forthcoming Beijing Olympic Games, is aiming to repeat the medal-winning success of the Athens 2004 relay team. “I remember watching the relay final last time – I couldn’t believe they were winning. It was a great achievement. There’s a medal in there for us in everything goes well. We’ll definitely be in the mix.”
The Games debutant and Sport & Exercise Science student will also be representing GBR in the 100m when he hopes to make it into the semi-finals.

University staff have the opportunity to buy a Team Bath FC season ticket at the concessionary rate of £60 on production of a University Library card.
