CONFERENCESMedicinal chemists head to Bath for conference
More than 100 medicinal and pharmaceutical chemists from throughout Europe came to the University this week to take part in a major conference looking at drug design, discovery and delivery.
Celebrating 40 years of MAIT at Bath
The MA in Interpreting & Translation programme in the Department of European Studies & Modern Languages celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2006. To mark the occasion a two-day symposium was held this week on campus.
Math Sci hosts two conferences
Two conferences are to take place on campus in September:
- London Mathematical Society meeting: Analysis & Stochastics
of Growth Processes 11-15 September
The aim of the workshop is to bring together analysts and probabilists working on the mathematical description of growth phenomena. Models based on the physics of individual particles will be discussed alongside models based on the continuum description of large collections of particles.
- BICS Conference: Stochastic Complex Systems
18-20 September
The focus will be on interesting statistical developments within bioinformatics, phylogenetics, environmental statistics, imaging, spatial statistics and Markov Chain Monte Carlo, with an emphasis on interaction between both statisticians and non-statisticians in and between these areas.

4 South Annex - New Research Building
Work will start in early September 2006 on an annex to the 4 South Building. This will be a new life sciences research building which will extend and complement the existing accommodation in 4 South. The building will sit to the south of main building on the existing car park C, it will be one to two storeys high and extends to about 900 square metres. It will be necessary for the contractor to have a working area for storage of materials and vehicles, and it has been arranged that car park C will be fenced off to form a site compound. Car park C will close from Monday 11 September.
Honorary Degree Nominations
The next round of nominations for the award of honorary degrees will be considered by the Honorary Degrees Committee on Monday 4 December 2006. The deadline for nominations is

Ben wins first major medal
