National Recognition for the University of Bath and Navtech Radar at the Annual KTP Awards
The University Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with Navtech Radar has won The Best KTP award at the 2010 Knowledge Transfer Partnership Awards, which celebrates partnerships between businesses and universities.
Knowledge Transfer projects will help teachers and small businesses
Two new Knowledge Transfer projects have begun to help teachers and small businesses in the region. Danae Stanton-Fraser (Psychology) will be running workshops for teachers interested in how to adopt Bath’s expertise in their science teaching.
Charitable trust funds research at the University of Bath
The University has received a charitable gift of £750,000 from the Esther Parkin Trust to support a wide range of research. Aside from legacies, this is the largest single gift ever made to the University.
Computer scientists get new specialist Lovelace Laboratory
The Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research) Professor Jane Millar officially declared the Lovelace laboratory open on 24 March. She told the invited audience that the range of specialist facilities available to students was a very positive benefit.
Building confidence for free
A free four-day confidence-building course is being held at Bemerton Health Neighbourhood Centre near Salisbury between 18 and 21 May.
Bathwick Hill Fun Run to help Romanian Aid Project
Chance to sign-up for the annual Bathwick Hill Fun Run on April 18th, 2010. In the name of charity students, staff and Bathonians will run the notorious three mile course out of the University campus, down North Road and back up Bathwick Hill. As always the event is being led by the University of Bath Student Community Action (SCA) group to raise funds for the Romanian Aid Project.
Fancy a challenge? Cycle 130km for Dorothy House
Cycling mad Miles Peyton from Team Bath is organising a one day cycle challenge from Bath to Brecon (130km) on 19 June 2010. This is a fundraising event for Dorothy House Hospice and Positive Action on Cancer.

Two Chemical Engineering lecturers awarded IChemE fellowships
Mike Bird and Semali Perera (Chemical Engineering) have been elected to Fellowship of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE). Fellow is the highest grade of IChemE membership and is awarded to engineering professionals of distinction, who are making significant contributions to the chemical engineering profession.
Yukteshwar Kumar lectures in Taiwan
Yukteshwar Kumar (European Studies & Modern Languages) recently delivered lectures on "Interpreting: Expertise and Techniques" and "How not to become an impressive interpreter" in Taiwan at National Chengchi University, National Sun-Yat Sen University and Foguangshan University.
French organisations tap computer professor’s expertise
Two different French organisations have requested James Davenport's (Computer Science) help in evaluating their research: CNRS, the French equivalent of RCUK, asked him to sit on the evaluation of the MathDoc Research unit, based in Grenoble; secondly he was requested to sit on the evaluation of a joint French government/Microsoft research team, based in the Paris area.

The student-run Bath Soup Company is to bring a one-month event celebrating the best of local produce to Bath’s Milsom Place (17 April to 9 May).
100 students to benefit from new scholarship fund
A generous gift from Bath-based couple Brian and Margaret Roper has enabled the creation of a new £300,000 scholarship fund to help University of Bath students reach their full potential. The first 33 Roper Scholarships will be awarded to students applying to the University for entry in the 2010-11 academic year.
PhD Management student wins prize in British Council awards
School of Management PhD student Niraj Kumar has been selected as a regional runner-up in the International Student Awards 2010, run by the British Council. The International Student Awards 2010 celebrate the achievements of international students and their contributions to life in the UK.

New 4 West building completes, on time & within budget
Last weekend saw the long awaited completion of the new 4 West building; the project has been finished on time and within budget which is an excellent outcome.
Publication that showcases University research available
A publication that showcases a selection of research projects from across the University is available from the Department of Corporate Communications.
Agresso users: Remember to use BUCS username & password
From today you must use your BUCS username and password to log-in to Agresso. You will also be requested for a domain, which is 'CAMPUS', not 'UB'. BUCS is currently working to create an improved login screen which only requires your username and password to be entered - this will be available shortly.
Job applicants give positive feedback on HR's new e-recruitment system
As you may be aware the University moved to a new e-recruitment system in early March. One of the aims of this new system was to improve the experience of applicants. To monitor user feedback, job applicants have the opportunity to complete an on-line user survey. Since the launch, 75% of job applicants using the e-recruitment system have completed the survey and of these 91% rated the application process as good or excellent.

BTOpenzone wireless hotspots are now available on campus where you see the sign, all you need to use this service is a wireless enabled mobile device.
Cycle confidently & more often! Cheap 1:1 cycling lessons available
Bath Cycling Campaign is offering 1:1 cycling training at reduced rate fees (£5 per hour, usually £30) with a Bikeability instructor. The session would be tailored to your needs and aims to make you feel more confident on the road.
Images of Research
Images of Research is an annual event for research staff, students and academics to communicate their research using photographic images. All entries will be displayed in a public exhibition to be held at the Octagon in Milsom Place from Thursday 13 May. An exhibition opening reception will be in the evening of Thursday 13 May.
Bath International Music Festival discount for staff

Leading epidemiologist Professor Christl Donnelly, from the MRC Centre for Outbreak Analysis and Modelling, Imperial College London, will talk about how to control the risks to public health at a public lecture at the University of Bath on Tuesday 20 April.

Margareta Kern Guest | ICIA Art Space 1 | Residency: Until 18 June. Open Monday -Saturday 10am-5pm
Over the next few months, artist Margareta Kern takes up residence in the Department of Social & Policy Sciences. The residency is organised by ICIA and is presented as part its 2010 programme of events that explore ‘the place of work’. Whilst in residence, Kern uses Art Space 1 as a site of production for her new installation, Guest, which will develop and change over the course of exhibition. Kern will engage staff and students of the University community to explore, compare and contrast her own artistic methods of enquiry with those used in the sociology of work.

Artist-in-residence Deborah Robinson enters the hidden world of the aquatic lab in the University’s Department of Biology & Biochemistry. Catching glimpses of researchers going about their daily work, Robinson captures the strange poetic beauty of this see-through world – from fish, water and tank, to the lens of the camera itself.

Working with voice or melodic instrument, musician, composer and singer songwriter Hassan Erraji introduces the entrancing polyrhythmic traditions of southern Morocco. Explore how the beat and rhythm work as a basis for a melody and song.

TeamBath Buccs bid for the Premier for first time in their history
TeamBath Buccaneers men’s firsts will face Brooklands, Canterbury and Deeside Ramblers in the play-offs as they bid for a place in the top-flight of English hockey for their first time in their history.
