Political economist Will Hutton and Iain Stewart, geologist and TV presenter, will be on the platform at the 14 May launch conference of our new Institute for Policy Research. The theme is "Policy and Power: Re-thinking the Role of Policy Research".

Dr Nicola Ingram, Department of Social & Policy Sciences, has been awarded the British Sociological Association’s poster prize.
Former staff and students launch sustainable stories book
Former staff and students from the University have contributed to a new book called Stories of the Great Turning. It tells stories of people who have transformed their lives by working towards more sustainable businesses, homes and communities.

We are providing a proposal support service for this year’s Marie Curie Fellowship schemes.
RCUK funded researchers – open access publication changes
RCUK have revised their policy on access to research outputs. This affects researchers who are wholly or partially funded by a Research Council in the UK.
Funding boost to develop new green energy materials
A research consortium led by Professor Saiful Islam (Chemistry) has been awarded £3.2m to work on new sustainable materials for energy storage and conversion.
Volunteers needed for research into effect of food before exercise
Researchers from the Department for Health are looking for volunteers to take part in a study to find out whether we should eat or fast in the hours before exercise.

The bi-annual Postgraduate (PGT) Taught Experience Survey 2013 is now live for completion by all eligible PGT students. The deadline for completion is Monday 17 June 2013.
University launches its first smartphone and tablet app
