Bath celebrates 100 years of pharmacy
More than 700 former students, members of staff and VIPs took part in celebrations to mark 100 years of pharmacy research and education in Bath last week. The various events were heralded a great success and
included lectures on pharmaceutical science and pharmacy practice which brought together leading scientists from around the world (including many former students and members of staff) and featured presentations about the department's cutting-edge portfolio of research. A formal reception was held on Saturday
hosted by the University's Chancellor, Lord Tugendhat.
Vice-Chancellor officially opens the new Imaging, Design & Print Services
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Glynis Breakwell, spoke at the official opening of the recently refurbished Imaging, Design & Print Services and congratulated the team on their successful launch and customer-led services.
Staff Recognition Awards 2007
The 2007 Staff Recognition Awards were presented by the Vice-Chancellor at this year's Staff Recognition Evening held in the Claverton Rooms on Wednesday.
This year's winners, who both work in the Estates Department, are Steve Holmes,
the University's Mechanical Services Engineer, and Mark Fletcher,
Chargehand Porter in Wessex House. Congratulations!
Architects shortlisted to design new Interdisciplinary Arts Complex
The University has selected five architects to put forward their concept ideas for the planned Interdisciplinary Arts Complex at the Claverton Down campus. The architects were selected from 80 practices that originally expressed an interest in the project through a competition organised by the University in conjunction with the Royal Institute of British Architects. The five practices will now work on their concept designs over the summer, having been given a summary outline brief by the University, so that they can present the initial ideas in early autumn.
Bath student's 'Obsession with possession' essay wins IEMA award
An outstanding essay by Bath student Penelope Court on the detrimental effects of consumerism upon the environment has been announced as the winning entry of a leading student award from the Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment. INFORMATION

Senate agreed earlier this month that a review of aspects of the student disciplinary procedure should take place under the chairmanship of Mark Humphriss, University Secretary.
The review will cover those matters handled by Student Services, the residences, Security Services, BUCS, the Library and the Students' Union.
Higher Education Volunteering Awards 2007 - nominations now open
The awards were set up to reward and recognise exemplary
volunteering projects and student and staff volunteers who have shown significant commitment to or exceptional execution of volunteering activities.

Purchasing Services Customer Satisfaction Survey
In an effort to improve the services that Purchasing Services offer to University departments, the Office is introducing, and will be reporting on, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that seek to measure satisfaction with the services provided. In order to do this effectively you are invited to complete a short survey.
Student Services Staff Survey 2007
To help monitor and develop the effectiveness of the student services provided by the Counselling Service, the Learning Support Service, the Student Money Service and the Head of Student Services' Office, staff are being asked to take a few minutes to complete the Student Services Staff Survey 2007.
Skills Training & Research Supervisors Survey (STaRSS) 2007
The Graduate Office is requesting that Research Supervisors complete a survey which asks whether recent changes and challenges have impinged upon research degree study.

UK Clinical Research Collaboration (UKCRC)
The major funders of infection research in the UK have come together under the auspices of the UK Clinical Research Collaboration (UKCRC) to launch a new joint funding initiative. It will provide funds of up to £16.5 million to support research in this area. An open meeting for potential applicants is being held in London on Tuesday 17 July.
Pioneering youth coach gives workshop
The power of coaching to support and inspire young people will be explained at a workshop led by Harry Singha, the creator of youth coaching in the UK, at the Oakfield campus on Monday 16 July.

Ground-breaking disability sport initiative launched in Bath
World record sprinter and Paralympic hopeful Ben Rushgrove and top British wheelchair tennis players Lucy Shuker and Louise Hunt were at the Sports Training Village this week to inspire more disabled people to take up sport through the launch of a ground-breaking nationwide initiative called Deloitte Parasport - a campaign spear-headed by iconic Paralympian Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson.

Student Craig is an inspirational figure
University of Bath student Craig Pickering was named as GB men's captain of the Norwich Union Great Britain and Northern Ireland team at the European Under-23 Championships, which got underway yesterday (Thursday). The 20-year-old Sport & Exercise Science student is due to contest the 100m at the championships in Debrecen, Hungary, this afternoon after winning his heat and the semi-final yesterday.
