£7.35 million grant is largest ever for University of Bath
The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council has awarded the Engineering Innovative Manufacturing Research Centre a £7.35m grant to further its research into ways of making design and manufacturing more efficient and effective.

Researchers led by Philip Salmon (Physics) are shining new light into the mysterious world of the atomic structure of glass, paving the way for new and important materials to be developed.

Researcher wins prestigious Fellowship at Harvard
Dr Tamás Székely (Biology & Biochemistry) has been awarded a prestigious Visiting Fellowship at Harvard University, USA, to research wetland bird conservation.

Bath academic elected as Senior Fellow of Royal Academy
Professor Rudolf Klein, Emeritus Professor of Social Policy, has been elected as a Senior Fellow of the British Academy, the independent fellowship of more than 800 scholars in the humanities and social sciences.

Dean of Management appointed to EFMD Board
Professor Andrew Pettigrew, Dean of the School of Management, has been appointed to the European Foundation for Management Development's (EFMD) Board.

IMRC presents research findings at House of Commons
The School of Management's Innovative Manufacturing Research Centre (IMRC) was recently selected, together with six other leading Universities, to present its latest research at the House of Commons.

Pupils use mobile technologies to monitor pollution on the way to school
Pupils from Hayesfield School Technology College in Bath and Castle School in Thornbury near Bristol will be using prototype mobile phone technology and sensors to monitor pollution levels on their journey to and from school over the next two weeks as part of a research project with the Department of Psychology.

New business award for female entrepreneur
Caroline Waldron, who has just completed the University of Bath in Swindon's Women into Enterprise Scheme, has won top prize in the Swindon Businesswomen's Breakfast Club Make it Happen Award competition for businesswomen.

Physics postgrads head to Wales for Skills Training
Thirty-three postgraduate students from the Department of Physics spent the last week of June at Gregynog, the University of Wales' conference centre in Powys, as part of their training programme in generic skills.

Theatre in pilots Equalities & Diversity training
On 10 July Theatre in, a nationally acclaimed innovative training company which incorporates the use of professional actors within training workshops, carried out a taster session of its Equalities and Diversity training, with a view to making the training more widely available within the University community.

Playscheme
The Playscheme for children aged 4-11 years will run from Monday 31 July-Friday 25 August at St Martins Garden Primary School. Please contact nursery@bath.ac.uk for more information.

Sign up now for autumn language classes
The Foreign Languages Centre specialises in teaching languages to a wide spectrum of student and adult learners. This programme is open to all with no formal entry requirements. Autumn classes start on 2 October 2006 and take place at lunchtimes and in the evening.

A unique photography exhibition specially commissioned by Dance South West & Arts Council England South West is shown as part of the Big Dance 2006, a national celebration of dance across the UK between 15 & 23 July 2006. Leading photographer Kevin Clifford was invited to combine the beauty of the West Country with the imagination and talent of the region's most creative dance artists. ICIA at the University of Bath is the only venue in the South West to exhibit the full series of photographs in both its galleries, Art Space 1 & 2, running  weekdays 10am-5pm from 17 July to 13 October.
