Appointment of a new ChancellorLord Tugendhat has given notice that he intends to retire as Chancellor of the University not later than in July 2013. Members of the University are now encouraged to put forward any names for the appointing committee’s consideration.

Tobacco Control Research Group to present at Singapore conferenceMembers of the Tobacco Control Research Group, comprising staff from the Department for Health and the Department of Social & Policy Sciences, are going to Singapore at the weekend to take part in the 15th World Conference on Tobacco or Health.
Celebration of prestigious EU research exchange
The Department of Politics, Languages & International Studies (PoLIS) is celebrating the award of a prestigious European Union grant. The grant will fund two members of staff, two postgraduate students and two postdoctoral students to study and research in Australia and New Zealand as part of an exchange programme.

The theme of the exhibition this year is ‘ Research in your World’ and the University is looking for entries that will show the public how our research is relevant to the world that they know.
This framework of principles is important to those looking for funding for collaborative, multi-institutional research and related research activities, such as capital investment, doctoral training, innovation, knowledge exchange, and public engagement.

Media Fellowships: Learn how to turn the latest science into news
The British Science Association runs a Media Fellowship scheme for researchers to with with media hosts such as the BBC, Guardian or Nature to get communication skills and confidence working with the media. Open to researchers from PhD level upwards.
Free beginner’s guide to the media for scientists and engineers Thursday 22 March
The Science Media Centre is holding a free ‘Introduction to the Media’ event for scientists and engineers at the Veysey Building, Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Exeter from 1.30pm to 6pm with drinks afterwards.
Standing up for science media workshop Friday 23 March
This full day event, held at the University of Manchester, is free and for early career researchers in all sciences, engineering and medicine (PhD students, post-docs or equivalent in first job).

The Professionalism in the Digital Environment (PriDE) project, funded by the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) has launched its first set of open educational resources to the higher education community.

THE Outstanding Leadership & Management Awards 2012 Deadline - Today
This award will go to the institution that demonstrates the greatest breadth and depth of leadership and management skills, including many of those recognised by other award categories.
Excellence in Doctoral Supervision award Deadline - Wednesday 4 April
The purpose of this award is to promote, recognise and reward excellence in the supervision of doctoral students of all kinds. The award consists of a prize of £1000 to the successful nominee(s). Please could you make any potential successful nominees aware of this award.

We're collecting supermarket vouchers! Deadline - Wednesday 11 April
Sainsburys supermarket has just launched its annual Active Kids voucher campaign, and Westwood Nursery on campus is collecting the vouchers. These can be exchanged for a range of sports and cooking equipment for the children to use at the Nursery.
Uni Medical Centre – travel clinic open to all staff and students
You do not need to be a registered patients at the Medical Centre to visit their travel clinic, which offers a full range of vaccinations and is a registered Yellow Fever centre.
Chance to enter the Race for Life Sunday 17 June
Entries for Cancer Research UK's Bath Race for Life have opened. Organisers are issuing a rallying cry to mums, daughters, sisters, grandmothers and friends, encouraging them to sign up as soon as possible for the event which will take place at the University.

Founders day lecture: planets, life and the universe Wednesday 4 April
Lord Rees of Ludlow will be talking at the University about the history of the universe at the Founders Day Lecture at 5.30pm in the East Building Lecture Theatre. This public lecture will discuss the possibility of life on other planets and what the future holds for astronomy.
Human development in India: towards social inclusion Friday 23 April
This lecture will draw heavily on India's recent Human Development Report, for which Dr Mehrotra was lead author. Dr Mehrottra was one of the original architects of the UN Human Development Reports, and is currently Director of the Indian Institute for Manpower Service.

Trio selected to swim for Team GB at Olympic Games
Swimmers Michael Jamieson, Stacey Tadd and Andrew Willis are the first University of Bath-based athletes to be named in the Great Britain team to compete at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Bookings are now being taken for the Tribe Easter Holiday camps.

Netball fans can expect an exciting feast of top-flight netball when Team Bath host Surrey Storm tonight, as phase two of the Fiat Superleague gets underway.
Team Bath to host international netball fixture
International netball returns to the University when England take on Barbados at the Team Bath Arena next month.
