David Beckham’s love life is more on the minds of seven-year-old
children than their toys or clothing, according to new research from
Dr Agnes Nairn, School of Management.
Study links depression in women with chronic pain to greater incidence
of disability
Women with higher levels of depression when suffering with long-term
pain report greater disability than men in the same situation, according
to new research by Dr Ed Keogh, published in the latest edition of the
European Journal of Pain.

This week, The Times Newspaper published its national university league
table, 2007. The University appears 19 times in the UK top ten course
league table, and was placed ninth overall.

forum helps teachers learn about their pupils’ engineering
prospects
Secondary school teachers from throughout the UK will be coming to the
University of Bath next month to take part in a special event that will
help stimulate engineering education and awareness of engineering in
schools.
Hike
for Humanity raises over £400 for UNICEF
The Bath One World
Staff Society (BOWSS) recently organised a ‘Hike
for Humanity’ in aid of UNICEF along the Bath skyline walk. The
walk took place on Sunday 19 March, and was followed by an informal
social gathering in UBSA. The event was a great success with a wide variety
of walkers, including all ages of staff, students, Bathonians and their
families taking part.
Students head off for Zambia project
A team of University of Bath students head off to Zambia next week to
take part in an international leadership exchange programme.

International workshop on EU politics, society & governance
An international exploratory workshop on 'European Politics, Society
and Governance' will take place on campus between 21 -23 June 2006.
Approximately 30 academics from five countries will participate, nine
of which from Shandong University (China). This is the first academic
event of the partnership of the two institutions, a partnership that
formally began earlier this year.

Details of proposed new pay deal released
The Universities and Colleges Employers' Association has released the
proposed pay agreement reached by the Joint Negotiating Committee for
Higher Education Staff.
Corporate Plan 2006-07 to 2008-09 The University of Bath is required to submit a new Corporate Plan to
the HEFCE in July 2006 to cover the period 2006-07 to 2008-09. In considering
the nature of the corporate planning exercise to be undertaken, the Strategic
Planning Group agreed that it would not be prudent to engage in a radical
revision to the University's existing Corporate Plan in the lead up to
RAE 2008.
University summer playscheme
The summer playscheme will be running at St Martin's Garden
Primary School from Monday 31 July 2006 until Friday 25 August 2006. Full

Karate success at European Championships
Seven current and former Bath students, led by University of Bath Karate
Club instructors Tom Crick (Computer Science), Charlie McMullan and Jim
McCafferty, were placed fifth overall (two golds and six bronzes) in
the WUKO European Karate Championships in Austria last weekend, behind
national
federations from Italy, Romania, Belarus and Portugal. With many strong
performances from the squad, the sights are now set on the WUKO World
Karate Championships in Valencia next June.

for supporting preparations for his epic attempt to swim 21 miles across
