University unveils plans for £100m investment in campus
The University has unveiled a major three-year capital works programme worth more than £100m that will enhance its campus with new teaching space, student accommodation and a new Centre for the Arts.
Bath appoints new Professor of Healthcare Engineering
Our University has appointed Professor Richie Gill to pull together multi-disciplinary expertise in healthcare engineering from across the institution.
University wins a share of £2 million to support social enterprise projects
Our University's Students’ Union has been given £25,000 to help fund social enterprise. A scheme to help students and staff set up and develop new businesses has been awarded the money from the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE). It is one of 56 Higher Education institutions to get a share of the £2 million pot.
Celebrating our Olympians
As we look back on London 2012 we applaud all the athletes associated with the University who have made it such a glorious Games, and take great pride in the Olympians who are bringing home medals.

Changes in Finance Office and Purchasing Services Office
There have been a number of changes in the Finance Office and the Purchasing Services Office to recognise the close relationship between the two functions.
Post room is moving - No internal mail deliveries or collections
On Thursday 23 August, the University’s Post Room will be moving from its current location to a new site in Wessex House, Level 2, on the walkway between Barclays Bank and the entrance to 5 West. As a result, there will be no deliveries, or collections from, or to, any University departments on that day. Normal services will resume on Friday 24 August 2012.
Post Office, Fresh and Santander availability
The availability of these services will be changing as the University enters the final stages of its development of commercial & retail outlets. Please follow the link for more details.

Nominations for Leverhulme Trust Visiting Fellowships Deadline - Friday 28 September
Departments are now invited to submit ONE Fellowship nomination to this internal competition. In particular we would welcome nominations for individuals who can help build international links with academic groups at Bath with a view to building longer term sustainable research collaborations.
Two new funding streams for Pathways to Impact projects Deadline - Monday 8 October
The Research Development & Support Office (RDSO) would like to announce two funding opportunities to stimulate pathways to impact projects. The two funding streams are from the Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE).
Workshop: Developing grant applications for applied health research
The Grant Applications Workshop is directed at researchers who are considering applying to peer-reviewed funding competitions for applied health or social care research, and is intended to allow them to turn good applications into excellent ones.
Information session taking place on REACT Knowledge Exchange Hub Wednesday 5 September
The information session will provide information on the opportunities that are offered to academics by the Arts and Humanities Research Council funded REACT Knowledge Exchange Hub for the Creative Economy. This event will be of interest to those who already know they want to apply for funds and those who just want to find out what it is all about.
Technology and ageing photographic exhibition tours UK parliaments
A major photography exhibition involving our University has taken place in all four UK parliaments this summer. The exhibition aimed to challenge preconceptions about older people and technology, to promote the inclusion of older people in the design of technology, and to inspire technological solutions to the real, not imagined, problems of ageing.

Performance Review - conducting an effective review - Wednesday 5 September (am)
This workshop will discuss the objectives of review, the process, and forms and follow-up action plan. Participants will have the opportunity to consider and practice the skills needed to carry out the process effectively.
Performance Review - getting the most out of your review - Wednesday 5 September (pm)
This workshop aims to help those who are being reviewed for the first time to understand their role in this two-way process. During the course delegates will have the opportunity to consider the objectives and benefits of performance review, explore the process and consider what they might wish to do in preparation for their review meeting.
Recruiting casual staff - Monday 9 September
This session will explain the process from the initial job advert through to selection and appointment of student staff. This will include the paperwork, ID checks and working regulations and the skills students can gain through this employment.
The nuts and bolts of managing people Tuesday 10 September
This session is an introduction for all new line managers on the responsibilities and processes involved in managing people at the University.
Leading Teams: Building, Motivating & Developing Staff Friday 14 September
This course aims to promote management practices and techniques which engender good team morale and also help managers when things don’t go so well.

The University will be applying later in 2012 to renew the Athena SWAN bronze award currently held. Please read the draft submission which has been prepared by the Athena SWAN self-assessment team who would welcome any views from across the University.
THE Video competition - Win an iPad - Closes 4 September 2012
Times Higher Education magazine is running a short-video competition open to anyone who studies or works at a university as part of the official launch of the World University Rankings 2012-13.
The entrants can be individual students, students' unions, university faculty and administrative staff who are asked to make a 10-second video that completes the sentence: "My university is world-class because..."
Social & Policy Sciences (SPSS) users need to update to version 20 by Monday 31 December
We are requesting that all lecturers and researchers upgrade their software and teaching materials to SPSS 20, before Monday 31 December 2012.
Over the summer BUCS Audio Visual (AV) have updated the Panopto server to 4.2, bringing some new features and improved stability.
