Prince and Duchess to open painting exhibition at Holburne Museum
Prince Charles and The Duchess of Cornwall are to open the exhibition Painting The West Country House & Garden at the Holburne Museum of Art on Friday 3 February. They will arrive by helicopter on the University campus.

Student applications up at Bath despite national downturn
The University of Bath has bucked a national trend for declining numbers of student applications at UK universities by reporting an increase in applications for undergraduate courses this year.

£3.8 million for Swindon-based project to fill local training gaps
An extra £3.8 million is to be spent in Swindon and the rest of the South West to get more people to study vocational courses at university.

Swindon initiative wins highest rating for helping women entrepreneurs
The Small Business Hub at Oakfield, which offers free support and training to local businesses and entrepreneurs, has become the first organisation in the South West to receive a Flagship award for its support of female entrepreneurs.

Blogging student wins competition
Modern Languages & European Studies student Claire Daly has won a competition for writing a blog about her year abroad in Russia.

UK's first ever Doctor of Business Administration degrees in Higher Education Management awarded
Moira Helm of Canterbury Christ Church University and Kofi Nkrumah-Young of the University of Technology, Jamaica, studied part-time over three and a half years for their DBAs in HE Management at the University of Bath.

Chemistry networking forum 1 February
An event to introduce some of the current and future research topics that members of staff in Chemistry have interests in, and to facilitate discussions regarding new research collaborations and interdisciplinary projects between Chemistry and other departments.

Research leaders' survey
Following the success of the CROS research staff surveys, institutions from across the UK are taking part in this new HEFCE-funded survey, aimed at finding out what research leaders think about their role and the support they receive to learn it, develop it and perform it.

National Teaching Fellowship Scheme (NTFS) 2006
The Higher Education Academy's National Teaching Fellowship Scheme recognises and rewards individual excellence in teaching in higher education in England and Northern Ireland.

Brenda Frankham retires
Brenda Frankham will be taking early retirement on Wednesday 1 February after nearly 18 years with the Finance Department.  If you would like to sign the card or make a contribution towards a gift to mark her retirement, please see Angela Milsom, Wessex House 4.04 or Mary Benjamin, Wessex House 4.08. There will be a presentation for Brenda on 1 February in the Payments Office (Wessex House) at 1pm. TeamBath trio heading for Torino
TeamBath skeleton sliders Kristan Bromley, Adam Pengilly & Shelley Rudman have been selected to represent Team GB at the Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games. Shelley is studying part-time on the Foundation Degree in Sport (Sports Performance) at the University.

TeamBath take-on arch rivals Loughborough
TeamBath aim to continue their 100 per cent record in netball's inaugural figleaves.com Superleague when they travel to Leicestershire to play arch rivals Loughborough Lightning on Saturday 28 January. TeamBath are currently top of the table with Loughborough third. The University of Bath-based team beat Loughborough 47-44 when the two teams met earlier this season - even though Loughborough had raced away to a 1-10 lead in the first six minutes of the contest.

Romans make it three out of four
TeamBath Romans beat Colchester United 77-66 in England Basketball League Division 2 to move into a play-off place and make it three wins from their last four matches.
