Queen's Anniversary Prize winner
We have been awarded a Queen's Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education – the country’s most prestigious national recognition for a UK academic or vocational institution.
Members of staff from the University attended the prestigious Times Higher Education award ceremony in London last night.

A new online career planning tool for young people in the South West has been launched by the University.
Charter Day ceremony recognises the gift of scholarships
A record-breaking 150 new scholars were welcomed to the University at the annual Charter Day scholarships ceremony, held on campus on Saturday 12 November.

Nike prizes awarded to sport & exercise science bloggers
Nike supported the inaugural sport & exercise science placement blog competition which encouraged students to write about their experiences during the third year of the undergraduate degree.

Academic council celebrates Students’ Union and University awards
Professor Bernie Morley, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Learning & Teaching) and Gwen van der Velden, Director, Learning & Teaching Enhancement, attended the first academic council meeting of the year to congratulate and celebrate recent achievements with the new academic representatives.
Plagiarism detection through Moodle and Turnitin
Over 70 members of staff attended a series of presentations and took part in discussions about the use of the Turnitin Plagiarism Service, which is now completely integrated with Moodle.
SU Vice-President (Education) represents Bath on digital literacies
Matej Benka, SU Vice-President (Education), has been invited by the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) to join a panel of national speakers at the 6th International Innovating e-Learning 2011 online Conference.

The economics of good and evil Monday 28 November
A dramatised presentation by Tomáš Sedláček followed by a discussion and audience and Q&A session. The event will be held in 3W North 3.7 at 7.15pm.
On the secrets of motivation Wednesday 30 November
World-renowned professor, Richard Ryan, will be speaking on the secrets of motivation in a lecture taking place on campus later this month. The lecture will be held in East 1.1 at 5.15pm.
University carol service Wednesday 7 December
Led by the chaplaincy team, this popular annual event at Bath Abbey features the University chamber choir, organist Peter King and conductor Michael Painting. There will be a retiring collection for Wateraid. Entry from 7pm with the service starting at 7.30pm. All staff and students, their families and friends welcome.
Training & development
Retirement - planning for the future Wednesday 30 November
By listening to expert speakers and through informal discussion, this course aims to give staff considering retirement an opportunity to prepare themselves for their future.
Mental health first aid -numerous dates
This is a 12-hour course consisting of four modules spread over two days. It comprises of a mixture of presentations and participation and is accredited by the Royal Society of Public Health. Participants are required to attend the whole course in order to receive a certificate of attendance.
Researcher development courses
The Researcher Development Unit (RDU) manages a large programme of courses and events for the skills and career development of researchers.
Performance review - conducting an effective review Monday 5 December (am)
This workshop will discuss the objectives of review, the process and forms and follow-up action plan. Participants will have the opportunity to consider and practice the skills needed to carry out the process effectively.
Performance review - getting the most out of your review Monday 5 December (pm)
This workshop aims to help those who are being reviewed for the first time to understand their role in this two-way process. During the course delegates will have the opportunity to consider the objectives and benefits of performance review; explore the process and consider what they might wish to do in preparation for their review meeting.

Phil Vere promoted to President of Nordson DAGE
Phil Vere (BSc Mechanical Engineering) has recently been promoted to become President of Nordson DAGE.
Kirstie Moore (MBA) has been appointed as a board advisor for British Cycling. She has a masters degree in sports science and graduated from the University in 2008 with an MBA.
Duncan Wingham announced as new chief executive of the Natural Environment Research
Duncan Wingham (PhD Physics) has been announced as the new chief executive of the Natural Environmental Research. He achieved his PhD from the University in 1984.
Justin King appears on Question Time
Justin King (BSc Business Administration), chief executive of Sainsburys, was on Question Time last night which was filmed in the city of Bath. He graduated from the University in 1983.
Jonathan Watts and George Oates win the Supreme Award for Structural Engineering Excellence
Two Bath architecture graduates, Jonathan Watts (MArch Architecture) and George Oates (MEng Architecture & Civil Engineering) have been involved in designing the Olympic Velodrome and are coming to campus to give current students a talk.
