£1 million endowment will help University research bio-fuels
A million-pound endowment has been given to the University by the locally-based Medlock Charitable Trust to further important research into vehicle engineering
within the Faculty of Engineering & Design.
Book about experiences of dyslexic academics and artists is published
A book that draws together the experiences of dyslexic academics and artists was launched today (Friday June 22).
Cascade – creativity across science, art, dyslexia, education is published by the University of Bath and features dyslexic contributors such as Professor William Gosling, Professor Emeritus in Electronic Engineering at Bath, and the artist Mike Juggins.
New equipment enables chemical structure analysis of tiny samples

on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (June 26-28),
with some 2,000 students expected to attend at the city's Abbey.

Professor Jocelyn Bell Burnell CBE, former Dean of Science, became Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in recognition of her services to science in the Queen's Birthday Honours announced on Saturday.

Professor Francis Duck, Visiting Professor in the Department of Physics, was awarded an MBE in recognition of his services to healthcare in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.
Winners of painting competition announced
The winner of the University of Bath Painting Prize has been revealed as Fiona Robinson for her piece: Opposite ends of a possible path.
Piers Ottey won the University Choice prize by gaining the most votes from staff and students with his piece Williamsberg and the East River from Times Square with a bit of Norman Foster.

PubMedCentral Presentation
A representative of PubMedCentral will be making a presentation
to staff at the University on Monday 25 June from 12:30pm - 1:30pm
in the Council Chamber. The Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) asks that as
many staff as possible publishing in the life sciences and related areas
attend, given the trend towards a requirement for open access publishing
by an increasing number of funding bodies. If you are interested in attending

New dimensions of political competition in France
The 2007 presidential and parliamentary elections provide an opportunity to take the political pulse of the French nation. In the light of the election outcomes, this one-day conference at the University on Friday 6 July aims to investigate the processes of political change in France and the reasons behind them.

Death of Michael Hibbard
The University is saddened to announce the death of Michael Hibbard (52), a Chargehand Porter in the Department of Sports Development & Recreation,
who had worked for the University for 30 years.
The University would like to express its sincere condolences to Mr Hibbard's family and friends.
Agresso training programme for finance users
The timetable of training sessions is now available. People who currently use Lawson will need to receive training in Agresso. The University of Bath is committed to providing an environment where all employees and students are treated with dignity and respect, free of unlawful discrimination, victimisation, bullying or any form of harassment. Smoking Policy to take account
of the statutory changes coming into effect in July and to
manage the impact of smoking
upon non-smokers. The Parade
and Underdeck have been designated non-smoking areas. Smoking is still permitted
in open areas, sited well away from
buildings (as a general guide four
metres or more).

designated as a smoking area
which can be used at any time.
Publicising the research of academic staff
Some 120 staff have already agreed to put their details up on the University's
media experts' database, and all other academic staff are encouraged
to consider adding theirs. This makes it easier to publicise the research

The Research Institute for the Care of the Elderly (RICE) is looking for
two healthy men aged between 61 and 65 to act as controls for a particular
study which matches the responses of healthy volunteers to patients who
have Alzheimer's disease.

Volunteer parents and their children are needed for a Department of Psychology research project on stress hormones and development.
Acute exercise project
Men aged between 18 and 34 years
are needed for a research project investigating the effect of acute exercise on energy hormones.
