‘Babyish' Barbie under attack from little girls
Barbie's days on the Christmas wish-list could be numbered, according to a new study by Agnes Nairn (School of Management) which found that many 7-11 year old girls hate the doll so much that they physically attack it.

Professor Jane Millar takes up the post of Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Strategic Developments) in January 2006.

Judi Marshall receives ‘Faculty Pioneer Award'
Professor Judi Marshall (School of Management) has been awarded a prestigious ‘Beyond Grey Pinstripes European Faculty Pioneer Award' for her outstanding contribution to innovative activities in the area of business in society from the European Academy of Business in Society (EABIS), the Aspen Institute's Business & Society Program, and the World Resources Institute (WRI).

Collaboration wins £3.4m award to train industry leaders in Systems Engineering
The Universities of Bristol and Bath have collaborated to win a £3.4 million EPSRC Collaborative Training award to establish an Engineering Doctorate Centre for the Management of Systems for Enhanced Performance, based at the University of Bristol.

The link between people and performance
Unlocking the Black Box, a research project by John Purcell (Management), has been developed into a new online tool by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development to help managers improve business performance through effective people management.

Architecture student commended
Student Matthew Wickens received a commendation in the President's Medals Students Awards given by the Royal Institute of British Architects for his dissertation entitled The Modern House in Bath: Peter Womersley's Valley Spring. (Tutors Jeremy Gould and Vaughan Hart).

The last day of operations before the Christmas break will be Friday 23 December, and normal operations will resume on Tuesday 3 January 2006. Wednesday 28 to Friday 30 December are discretionary holidays.

  • Agnes Nairn's research into how children treat their Barbie dolls made most of the national papers in the UK, as well as over 100 large newspapers abroad (USA, China, Australia, New Zealand, S Africa, Canada, India). Agnes gave 19 interviews in one afternoon to BBC radio shows. See Bath in the Papers for list of online articles.

Netball: TeamBath win top of table Superleague clash
TeamBath opened up a two–point lead at the top of the Superleague by handing out a 38–57 defeat to fellow title chasers Brunel Hurricanes.
