Thousands of cheering school children, staff, students and local people lined the route of the Olympic Torch Relay through campus yesterday as we hosted the start of the Bath leg of its 8,000 mile journey around the UK.

Bath researchers join bid for tax increase on tobacco in Europe
David Clifford and Silvy Peeters from the University’s Tobacco Control Research Group have joined a call for a radical increase in the taxation of all tobacco products as the most effective way to make them inaccessible to European consumers.

Research student Joe Kinrade wins 2012 Ede & Ravenscroft Prize
The Ede & Ravenscroft Prize (£1,000) is awarded annually to the University’s best research student. This year’s winner is Joe Kinrade, from the Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering.

Participants needed - New techniques to reduce stress / improve well-being
Steve Dean is seeking to recruit 50 participants (men and women) who are full-time administrative staff at the University (grades 3 to 7) to help with a study to test the effects of a new training programme designed to reduce stress and improve well-being.
