Smart way of living for people with dementia
A groundbreaking home in Bristol that uses the latest smart equipment to give people with dementia and other serious long-term health conditions greater independence has been showcased for the first time by the School for Health researchers who developed the technology.

A remembrance service will be held on Wednesday 31 January 2007 for Hilary Ogilve, a MPharm1 student (02/03 and 03/04) who sadly passed away in August 2004. The informal service will start at around 2.15 pm and it will be held in the 5W quad around the tree planted in her memory. Anyone who wishes to share memories of Hilary may do so.
Death of Maureen Wheadon
The University is saddened to announce the death of Mrs Maureen Wheadon, who has contributed enormously over the past 20 years as a member of our Council, Court and numerous committees. Mrs Wheadon was awarded the Chancellor's Medal in 2000 in recognition of her long service to the University.

Annual fire alarm testing
The annual testing of the University's fire alarm systems will take place Monday 5 February 2007 - Friday 16 February. The alarms will sound in a short burst - you are not required to vacate the building. However, should the alarms sound in a continuous long burst then this is not a test and you should evacuate the building as soon as possible.
Sophos Anti-Virus upgrade
On 28 February Sophos will end support of Sophos Anti-Virus 4.xx and the Remote Update software.
All users (particularly those who have Sophos Anti-Virus installed at home) will therefore need to upgrade to the latest version of Sophos Anti-Virus before this time.

PERFORMANCES
- Bobby Baker kicks off the season with a rare visit to the south west for two nights (Sat 27-Sun 28 Jan) with her sell-out London show How to Live, following its success at the Barbican. With a career spanning more than three decades, Bobby is considered to be one of Britain's leading performers; her award-winning work captures the absurdities of daily life in a uniquely surreal and eccentric fashion.
- Ian Shaw, one of the UK's leading male jazz singers, makes Bath his only south west gig (Sat 3 Feb). He features songs from his latest critically-acclaimed album Drawn To All Things: the songs of Joni Mitchell. With one foot in jazz territory, and another somewhere rather soulful, Ian's repertoire also includes jazz standards and original compositions.
- The world premiere of Niki McCretton's SPACE 50 takes place at ICIA's Arts Theatre (Sat 10 Feb), before its national UK tour this spring and autumn. This brand-new theatrical piece unpicks man's astonishing journey to the heavens, with text written by Andrew Smith, author of the bestselling book Moondust. SPACE 50 is an ICIA commission.
CLASSES
ICIA runs classes in Dance, Music, Visual Arts and Theatre. Booking is now open for spring and summer classes. Weekly music based classes and groups include Big Band Jazz, Song-writing and DJ skills. Dance includes Street, Contemporary, Ballet, Tap and Jazz. Visual Arts offer Ceramics, Painting, Digital Art and Drawing with specialist weekend workshops.
