Duchess of Gloucester visits Sports Training Village
Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Gloucester met some of Britain's bright young tennis prospects when she paid a visit to the Lawn Tennis Association's National Junior Tennis Centre at the University of Bath on Thursday.

University holds its first Donor Reception
The University held its first Donor Reception on Saturday 20 May to thank all the generous donors (many of them alumni) who have given to the University in the past year and to let them know how their money is being spent.

School of Management Event for alumni & corporate friends
The School of Management was delighted to welcome Sir Digby Jones, Director-General of the CBI, to its annual Bath event which took place on Thursday 4 May in the magnificent setting of the Roman Baths and Pump Room. The following day a Master Class was held to expose alumni to the latest research and management thinking through interactive sessions with the School's leading faculty. It also provided an excellent opportunity to engage and network with other delegates.

Plans for state-of-the-art student residences on campus
Proposals to build state-of-the art student residences on campus have been approved by the Estates Committee. If planning permission is approved, the new courtyard accommodation will be ready for 350 students in September 2008.

The Department of Education wins an award for excellence
An article written by Dr Robert Barratt, Elisabeth Barratt Hacking and Professor William Scott, (Education) and investigating the most effective ways of bringing the children's local experiences into the curriculum has won an award for its contribution to geographical education.

Update on AUT action
Professor Ian Jamieson, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Learning and Teaching) has written to the University community about student examinations.

Learning & Teaching Award
The award will be made to a member of staff or postgraduate research student who makes a significant contribution to innovation in curriculum design, content or delivery. Deadline for nominations: Friday 9 June

Convocation Off-Campus Prize
An annual prize which is awarded to a student who has made an important contribution to the local community during the previous academic year or who has encouraged community links between the University and the people of Bath. Deadline for nominations: Wednesday 31 May

Funding available for enterprise sabbaticals
Academic members of staff now have the opportunity to apply for an enterprise sabbatical which will enable them to free up their teaching and administration commitments so they can work on entrepreneurial ideas and activities. Deadline for applications: Wednesday 31 May

Sunday is Zambia day!
The STV is hosting a Zambia open day as part of the University's support for the International Development Through Excellence and Leadership in Sport Scheme (IDEALS), which will be sending some Bath students to Africa in the summer as volunteers.

Sailing
On 1 May 2006 the University of Bath Sailing Team stormed to victory at the Greek Match Racing National and Open Championships. The three day event was hosted by Heraklion Sailing Club, Crete, under the watchful eye of America's Cup umpire Alfredo Ricci.
