Anxious fathers make caesarean ops more painful for mothers
Fathers who are anxious during a caesarean operation may increase the pain experienced by the mother after the delivery of their baby, according to Ed Keogh's new research published in the journal Psychosomatic Medicine.

In celebration of our 40th anniversary
This year the University celebrates its 40th anniversary. To commemorate this, the Department of Marketing and Communications has produced a 40th anniversary publication which has been circulated to all staff. A website with additional information will soon be going live.

Free public lecture: The quest for antimatter
Why do we exist? Matter and antimatter should annihilate one another, leading to an empty Universe! This, one of the fundamental questions of existence, will be discussed at a free public lecture at the University of Bath in Swindon next week (1 February).

Chemistry networking forum 1 February
An event to introduce some of the current and future research topics that members of staff in Chemistry have interests in, and to facilitate discussions regarding new research collaborations and interdisciplinary projects between Chemistry and other departments.

The saga continues: No access to/from campus from The Avenue
The University has been advised by Bath and North East Somerset Council that consultation is again underway about proposals to restrict traffic turning from the campus into The Avenue and vice versa. This would have a knock on effect on all the other access roads to campus. Interested parties are urged to email transportation@bathnes.gov.uk before 17 February 2006, copying to avenue@bath.ac.uk so the Director of Estates can take staff feeling into consideration when compiling the institutional response. Please note, any previous correspondence to BANES will not be taken into consideration in the current consultation.

Survey about bus services 20A/C
Bath and North East Somerset Council are proposing an increase in frequency of circular bus routes 20 A/C to half-hourly, depending on demand. PLease complete the survey.

Research leaders' survey
Following the success of the Careers in Research Online Survey research staff surveys, institutions from across the UK are taking part in this new HEFCE-funded survey, aimed at finding out what research leaders think about their role and the support they receive to learn it, develop it and perform it.
