University appoints new Head of Public Engagement
Welcome to Dr Joanna Coleman who has started work as our new Head of Public Engagement. She will be responsible for developing plans to embed public engagement in every stage of the University’s research, including postgraduate research, research centres and institutes, and with external partners.
Centre for Death & Society website recognised as ‘excellent’
The Centre for Death & Society (CDAS) has been recognised for its ‘excellent’ website in a review by Nursing Standard, the UK’s best-selling nursing journal.
Biomaterials award for Dr Irene Turner
Dr Irene Turner, Reader in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, has been awarded the 2012 Biocompatibles Endowed Prize by the United Kingdom Society for Biomaterials (UKSB).

Professor Doug King and Professor Pete Bonfield OBE, both visiting professors in the Department of Architecture & Civil Engineering, have been elected to Fellowship of the Royal Academy of Engineering. This honour recognises the UK’s most distinguished engineers.

Italy’s talented entrepreneurs selected for business incubation in the UK
The SETsquared Partnership has selected some of Italy’s brightest students for an intensive one-week entrepreneurship programme in the UK. Fifteen Italian students will learn from experienced UK entrepreneurs and innovators in an intensive week-long Bath Entrepreneurship Programme, which is run in conjunction with the University’s School of Management.

KTA film: Piezoelectric devices help reduce harmful aeroplane emissions
Piezoelectric devices can change shape in an electric field. Andrew Plummer’s group in Mechanical Engineering has developed some piezoelectric valves that could radically improve aero engine fuel control. This could help to reduce harmful emissions from flying.

Our University has been awarded a short Knowledge Transfer Partnership (sKTP) with Seating Direct International Ltd, a company with a wealth of experience in the seating industry.

An email falsely claiming to be from IT Webmail support has been sent to 1800 University email addresses. Please ignore this email. It is an attempt to 'phish' or steal your personal information by obtaining your log-in details.

Bath contingent of 25 to compete in seven sports at Olympics
World champions Dai Greene and Mhairi Spence head an impressive list of 25 athletes preparing to compete at the London 2012 Olympic Games who train at our University.
Olympic and Paralympic athletes from 10 countries took time out from their London 2012 preparations to enjoy at a tea party at our Sports Training Village last Friday (20 July).
