Bath-based SETsquared company TopicLogic wins at UK Discovering Start-ups 2012
TopicLogic, a company supported by the University’s SETsquared Centre, as part of the SETsquared Partnership, has been announced as a winner at the nationwide Discovering Start-Ups 2012 competition.

A research collaboration between the University and caravan manufacturing company Bailey of Bristol was the subject of discussion this morning with Her Majesty The Queen.
Tobacco firms use cigarette smuggling to their advantage in Bulgaria research finds
Researchers from our Tobacco Control Group (Department for Health) have found that large tobacco companies have a long history of cigarette smuggling in Bulgaria. They found evidence that transnational tobacco companies appear to exaggerate the scale of the illicit tobacco trade in order to successfully convince politicians, public health experts and the press that tobacco tax increases lead to cigarette smuggling.
Innovative energy project set to use cosmic rays for monitoring
A research consortium involving Bath has won government and industry funding to develop a novel technique using cosmic rays for monitoring storage sites for carbon dioxide.
New programme for doctoral supervisors
The Researcher Development Unit has launched a new series of events and workshops aimed at supporting doctoral supervisors.
The University has allocated £1.1M of its HEIF allocation over the next three years to develop and grow a broad range of knowledge-based interactions between Bath and external stakeholders. Proposals are invited from all researchers to exploit and embed research outcomes with a high potential of return.
Calls for Knowledge Transfer Fund - TODAY
The fund allows researchers to have a greater input into the ways they are supported and developed and to complement the training and development opportunities provided by the Research Development Unit.
PhD student shortlisted for EPSRC ICT Pioneers award
Kent Wei, a third-year PhD student in the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering has been shortlisted for the 2012 UK ICT Pioneers competition under the category 'Transforming Society'.

Christmas trees - no longer being provided by Department of Estates
Christmas decorations are welcomed across the University but the Department of Estates have decided that it will not be responsible for the provision of ‘real’ Christmas trees to Departments, Schools, Faculties, etc, this year.

Removing barriers to create an inclusive and accessible society for all - Monday 3 December
Guest speaker Victoria Wells will discuss her own experiences of visible and hidden disabilities, and the importance of investing early to produce positive outcomes for disabled children in order to create an inclusive society for all.
Widening Participation seminar - Monday 3 December
This seminar reviews the evidence on the impact that economic, social and cultural factors have on educational attainment and progression to university and goes on to explore the role of universities in addressing the issues.
