Bath receives recognition from QAA for effectively engaging with students
Our excellent track record on student engagement has resulted in the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) inviting Gwen van der Velden, Director of Learning & Teaching Enhancement, to join a newly created Advisory Group to develop a new chapter of the UK Quality Code.
Graham Brown awarded visiting fellowship at Stanford and Uni of Singapore
Graham Brown, Senior Lecturer in International Development from the Department of Social & Policy Sciences, has been awarded the 2012 Lee Kong Chian Distinguished Visiting Fellowship at Stanford University and the National University of Singapore.

Road works in Hinton Charterhouse
A section of the B3110 (Bath Road, Hinton Charterhouse) is to be reconstructed/resurfaced from Monday 7 November 2011 to Thursday 10 November 2011 and will be closed from 7pm to 7am each night.

The role of new technologies in the world’s increasing demand for electricity is the subject of a public lecture taking place at the University of Bath next Tuesday.

Phil Jones, Director of the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia, will be discussing the implications of climate change in a public lecture at the University of Bath next Wednesday.
An open meeting co-sponsored by the three recognised university trade unions is taking place on Wednesday 16 November.

Training & development
Web expenses demonstration
Expenses for staff and postgraduate students must now be claimed online. To support the move from paper to online claims, we have been running a number of demonstrations, drop in and practice sessions. In addition there are also guides and videos available.
Retirement - Planning for the future Wednesday 30 November
By listening to expert speakers and through informal discussion, this course aims to give staff considering retirement an opportunity to prepare themselves for their future, so that their new life may be approached with confidence and enthusiasm.
This is a 12-hour course consisting of four modules spread over two days. It comprises of a mixture of presentations and participation and is accredited by the Royal Society of Public Health. Participants are required to attend the whole course in order to receive a Certificate of Attendance.

A wheelchair invented by Tim Morgan (MEng, Innovation and Engineering Design) has helped Rick Rodgers, a former stunt man and stage combat performer, become the first wheelchair user to complete the gruelling Mud Runner Classic 10k off-road run.
Merriman Capital Group, Inc. appoints Mark Green to head its Investment Banking Group
Mark Green (MBA, School of Management), who received his MBA. from the University's School of Management, has been chosen to head the Investment Banking Group at Merriman Capital Group, Inc.
Tim Hall (Business Administration, School of Management), has been appointed the new Finance Director of OGT.

Netball fans can snap up a bargain with TeamBath’s winter price freeze ticket offer if they’re quick off the mark. Tickets for TeamBath’s 2012 phase 1 Fiat Netball Superleague home fixtures are available at 2011 game prices when a bundle of tickets for all four games is bought.

Four TeamBath netballers feature in England’s 15-strong long squad for the World Netball Series fast net competition taking place in Liverpool this month.
