Multi-disciplinary research team awarded University seed funding for future water laboratory
A new multi-disciplinary initiative, that springs from the University’s Sustainable Water Sandpit, intends to bring together scientists, engineers, social scientists, investors, economists, policy makers, business people, advocates and users in order to examine and advance the implementation of sustainable water technologies.

New Research Outcomes System (ROS) launched by Research Councils UK (RCUK)
ROS is the Research Councils UK’s (RCUK) common approach to collecting details of the outcomes and impact of its funded research. RCUK believe that this information will be essential to demonstrate the benefits of Research Council funded projects to society and the economy.

Bath wins newly-awarded Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with Hydraulic Projects Ltd
The University has been awarded a KTP with Hydraulic Projects Ltd, (Hypro) a company which designs, manufactures, assembles and distributes quality hydraulic valves, actuators and pumps from their site in Dawlish, South Devon.

Associate recruited for Seiche KTP
The Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) team are pleased to announce the recruitment of Associate Ladipo Baruwa, to work on a KTP with Seiche Measurements Ltd, a company at the forefront of passive acoustic monitoring and sound and vibration engineering.

Ideas sandpit 3: identity and security Application deadline Monday 12 December
The aim of the sandpit is to stimulate multidisciplinary research proposals and initiatives in promising areas of research for the University around security and identity in the broadest sense.

David Parkin Visiting Professorship 2012/13
Applications are invited for the David Parkin Visiting Professorship for the academic year 2012/13. The Esther Parkin Trust provides annual funding of up to £20k to support this award. It provides an excellent opportunity to attract an outstanding colleague from outside the UK and to develop ongoing research and publication partnerships.

Better@Bath launched yesterday!
The Better@Bath web pages were launched yesterday by the Learning & Teaching Enhancement Office (LTEO).  A joint campaign between the University and the Students’ Union, the main aim of Better@Bath is to provide a focus for student feedback through the National Student Survey, highlighting innovation and good practice in learning & teaching, and recognising achievements which enhance the student experience.

Faculty Learning Communities kickstart blue sky thinking on digital literacies
The start of this month saw the creation of the first Faculty Learning Community (FLC) for the Faculty of Science, as part of the newly funded Professionalism in the Digital Environment (PriDE) project. Bringing both academic and administrative staff together with student representatives, this FLC was the third of four set up to explore the issues surrounding the digital environment and digital literacies.

Revision of Dignity & Respect for Students & Staff: policy & procedure
Having listened to feedback from the University community, we have revised the Dignity & Respect for Students & Staff of the University: policy & procedure for dealing with complaints. The revised policy has been approved by the Executive Committee and came into effect yesterday (8 December 2011).

The 'General' print queue will be reinstated on Tuesday 13 Dec
On Tuesday 13 December Computing Services will be re-introducing the 'General' Print queue and setting it as the default printer for all centrally managed staff PC's, ie. those that run Windows XP or Windows 7.

iTrent: Have you checked your personal details yet?
All staff are now able to securely view and update more of their personal details through the upgraded iTrent system over the web.

Richard Farrow retirement party
Richard Farrow, financial accountant, (finance office) is due to retire at the end of December. Finance staff are organising a get-together and would like as many of Richard’s friends and colleagues from across the University to join them in wishing him well over a glass of mulled wine and mince pies in the Wessex restaurant on Friday 16 December at 3.30pm.

Mental health first aid - numerous dates
This is a 12-hour course consisting of four modules spread over two days. It comprises of a mixture of presentations and participation and is accredited by the Royal Society of Public Health. Participants are required to attend the whole course in order to receive a certificate of attendance.
