With the start of London 2012 just six months away, you are invited to join the ‘Gold Rush’ with a special day of free activities and taster sessions at the Sports Training Village (STV) on Friday 27 January.
We are set to play our part in the world’s greatest sporting extravaganza, and to celebrate it being exactly six months until the Opening Ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games, we’re opening the doors of the STV to staff so you can share the pride we feel in this important year for Great Britain.
And there’s an exciting range of free activities for staff to have a go at on the day, including:
Free fitness suite access: 10am-7pm
All staff to register at the Sports Training Village main reception. Gym staff on hand to offer induction advice. Sessions running on the hour throughout the day include: Weight Loss, Introduction to Cardio Fitness, Introduction to Free Weight Exercises. All users must wear appropriate gym kit i.e trainers/shorts/tracksuit/t-shirts.

Free access to 50m pool for University staff: 10am-3pm
Contact the Sports Training Village main reception for your free swim ticket.
Swimming Technique / Coaching Advice 1-2pm. Head Coach Mark Skimming will be on poolside between 1– 2pm to offer advice. Don’t forget 20p for your locker and please take a shower before entering the pool.
Free Physio & Sports Massage Clinic: 12 noon-2pm
Free Physio and Sports Massage Clinic for University staff 12 noon-2pm at the Sports Training Village Sports Injury Clinic. Free exercise physiology taster sessions/discussions 12 noon-12.15; 1.30-1.45pm; and 1.45-2pm at the Sports Training Village Sports Injury Clinic.

Netball / Boccia / Badminton challenges: 12 noon–2pm
All staff to register at the Sports Training Village main reception. Individual challenges in the Sports Training Village Sports Hall in the named sports. Each challenge takes approximately five minutes each. Also the chance to take part in our Sports Training Village sports personality Quiz. Prizes to be won. Indoor training shoes to be worn by all. Free badminton court: 10-11am & 2-4pm
Free badminton court 10-11am & 2-4pm for University staff. Turn up and play. Don’t forget your racket, sports kit and indoor training shoes.
Golf technique session: 2-3pm & 3-4pm
Register at the Sports Training Village main reception. Practical Golf swing technique session with Castle Combe professional – Peter Green. Call 01225 386339 to book your slot in advance.
Free Hockey: 12 noon-1pm
Train with Team Bath’s Head Hockey Coach Jody Paul on astro two. Sports kit and trainers required. Register interest by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
Free 30 minute Bobsleigh taster sessions: 12 noon-2pm

Sports Science talks 12.30-1.30pm
Listen to a series of talks from our experienced sport science staff in the Sports Training Village Lecture Room. Register at the Sports Training Village main reception. “A case study approach of how we work with elite athletes showing opportunities for research collaboration”. Membership – bring a buddy offer
If you are member of the Fitness facilities we invite you to bring along a staff colleague to the forthcoming open day. They will be able to train on the day for free. If they enjoy their day and become a regular member, they’ll pay no joining fee and get their first month for free. As a reward for recommending your colleague, you’ll also get one month for free. In addition, you’ll have yourself a regular training partner and someone to inspire and motivate you.
You are welcome to attend any of these events during your lunch break or with specific permission of your line manager. If you are not in work or are working off campus that day then you are very welcome to come along and take part.
