New approach to TRAC time allocation
A project is underway to replace the TRAC Time Allocation Survey with data from departmental workload models.
In the past, we have gathered the necessary costing data using a periodic Time Allocation Survey (TAS). Individuals were required to fill out a schedule detailing their activities retrospectively for each four month period throughout the survey year. We hope that by taking the data directly from workload models we will reduce the burden on individuals and departments.
The Workload Data project will be led by the Director of Finance, with support from Diana Newport-Peace (Deputy Director of Policy and Planning), Vicky Davis (TRAC Accountant), and Simon Perks, an independent consultant with experience in this area. We will consult Deans, Heads of Departments, UCU and other interested stakeholders to make sure that the project learns from existing approaches and develops something that will add value to Departments as well as to the time allocation process.
