Biomechanics Symposium 2009 HIP AND KNEE REPLACEMENT: Challenges for the Future |
|
|
|
Hip and knee joint replacement surgery is extremely
successful and effective in relieving pain and restoring quality of
life to patients. We are however in a period of changing patient demographics
in what has been termed "The Millennium Patient", characterised
by younger patients, who are more physically active, and have a greater
expectation of quality of life than patients of a generation ago. Increasingly,
older patients are living longer and have similar aspirations to the
"Millennium Patient" in that they wish to lead full and active
lives. These demands, together with the desire for increased functionality,
are presenting new challenges to the required performance of joint replacements. The program will include an opportunity to view the latest work being undertaken at our diverse research centre. |
