Dr Christine Edmead

Profile

Teaching Interests

I have a dual role at the university working part time as a Senior Teaching Fellow in the department and part time as an Educational Projects Officer within the Learning and Teaching Enhancement Office (LTEO).

Within the department, my interests lie in the field of cellular signalling and molecular pharmacology. I currently convene five different units in immunology and receptor signalling, gene transcription and DNA, Molecular Applications in Pharmacology, Molecular Signalling and The Molecular Biology of Cancer as well as running study skills sessions, pharmacology laboratory classes and supervising dissertations.

My role within the LTEO is focussed on enhancing student induction and integration within departments across the institution particularly through the use of effective group work activities. I also work to support staff development through the GTA and new lecturer’s training programmes.

Research interests

I completed a PhD in immunology and continued my research looking at cellular signalling mechanisms. However, after taking up a teaching post in 2003 my research interests have moved towards enhancing the student learning experience. My current research interests are focussed on identifying effective strategies for enhancing academic skills development in diverse student cohorts and involve developing strategies for enhancing student integration, peer learning and support and group work.
