Dr Christopher Martin

I qualified as a Pharmacist in 2008 following my pre-registration training year at the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust.  I then completed my PhD studies at the Cardiff School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (CSPPS) investigating novel biodegradable microneedle devices. This work was funded entirely by the company 3M and therefore had a strong commercial emphasis. The research presented a unique challenge, but as a Pharmacist I enjoyed the dual aspects of investigating the underpinning pharmaceutical science combined with a clinically focussed endpoint. I also continued to locum as a community Pharmacist whilst completing my studies.

Following my PhD I have undertaken a number of research related roles. These have included part-time Research Associate posts at CSPPS and St Mary’s Pharmaceutical Unit, Cardiff and a part-time Research Pharmacist role at Viridian Pharma Ltd. I now feel that I have a breadth of Pharmacy experience encompassing all sectors of the profession from laboratory science to regulatory affairs and the sale and supply of medicines to the general public.

My passion is the design and development of new dosage forms to provide patient preferred therapies that will ultimately improve health outcomes.

As a Teaching Fellow in Pharmaceutics my aim is to convey my enthusiasm for the pharmaceutical sciences to future Pharmacists and to contextualise their learning within the scope of a profession that is becoming increasingly clinical in its focus.
