Teacher Practitioner

Mrs Fiona Pietersen

I am currently involved in a range of both Undergraduate and Postgraduate Pharmacy courses at the University of Bath. I deliver clinical workshops to 3rd and final year students encompassing a range of topics and focussing on the role of the pharmacist in practice with particular links to the hospital setting. I also work on the Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy, convening clinical units, organising workshops, delivering workshop sessions and providing feedback and support for students. Finally I contribute to the Independent Pharmacist Prescribing course, assisting in OSCE exams and marking student portfolios.

I have a 23 year career as a hospital pharmacist, previously as Clinical Pharmacy Manager at Frenchay Hospital, Safer Clinical Systems Pharmacist at the RUH in Bath, and currently as Lead Surgery Pharmacist also at the RUH. My extensive NHS experience enables me to share clinical aspects of pharmacy and medicines optimisation ensuring relevance to current practice and an appreciation of the challenges faced by healthcare professionals in the NHS today. My two years spent working on the Health Foundation funded Safer Clinical Systems Project has given me a particular interest in safety within the NHS and ensuring methods of working to ensure patient safety.
