Research interests

My research is focused on theory and modelling of nonlinear wave phenomena in different physical systems. In particular, I am interested in the effects of dynamical localization and formation of self-localized excitations – solitons and discrete breathers (also known as Intrinsically Localized Modes in the theory of nonlinear lattice systems).
Since arriving at Bath in 2006, I have been largely involved in research of nonlinear wave phenomena in optics, including light propagation in micro-structured optical fibres and light-matter coupling in semiconductor micro-resonators, working in close collaboration with experimentalists from Bath and other groups worldwide. Among my active research directions are nonlinear photonics and plasmonics in nano-structured media. I am interested in how we can control and manipulate light – change its colour and shape, route it along desired paths, optically store, release and process information – at miniature sub-wavlength (nano-metre) scale.
