Alan George

Biography

Alan George obtained his MEng degree in 2004 from the Technology Department of the Open University. Before taking up the position of Optogroup Technician in 2001 he worked for Invensys Westinghouse Rail Systems formily Westinghouse Brake and Signal Co Ltd as a Senior Production Engineer and Project Engineer, where his main duties involved Provision of methods and procedures to improve lead times, product safety and quality standards. Recommending and implement new systems, design improvements, techniques and processes. Work towards utilisation of best practice manufacturing techniques, with respect to Lean Manufacture, TQM, JIT, KANBAN, and Team working.

As CPPM Technician he is responsible for the daily running of the CPPM's fibre fabrication facility, giving supervision and assistance to university students and staff wishing to use the equipment, and helping with the design, manufacture and development of new products, procedures and processes.
